Behind the scene #9 - with Sponsorship Department & Tune Talk (Special Edition)

After weeks of seeking for cash sponsorship, the Sponsorship Department managed to invite
Tune Talk Sdn Bhd to be the event's MAIN SPONSOR!

Sponsorship Department members' never-ending spirit finally paid off when Tune Talk nodded their heads, marking their participation, walking side-by-side with "A Cut Above Charity" campaign. Hello, Tune Talk!

Yes, they are. Being one of the telecommunication companies in Malaysia, they are definitely setting their aims high and together, we will bring history down in TAR College!

Bet you are wondering how does it feels like to pitch a sponsorship proposal to a corporate company such as Tune Talk. Let us tell you THE story...

The team was pretty nervous since we were running out of time and our driver, Chong sure looks stressed (in the picture below). =P

Nervous, excited yet nervous ... It was a mixture of emotions and feelings while waiting for the moment to meet Tune Talk personnel in person. Anticipation.

Presenter of the day ... Jennifer as the Leader of Sponsorship Department pitched to Tune Talk personnel.

Negotiation in place ... Trying to put together a mutually beneficial sponsorship with Tune Talk and event organisers.

And viola!

After much negotiation and discussion within the organisers, Tune Talk will be joining our event as our main sponsor.
So here we are, walking side-by-side with Tune Talk, conducting a charity event and welcome on board in this big family! =)

Behind the scenes #7 - with Sponsorship Department

Working hard to seek for sponsorships, "A Cut Above Charity" Sponsorship Department made a trip to Brother International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd at Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

With the event just around the corner, "A Cut Above Charity" Sponsorship Department kept their hopes and spirits high in seeking for sponsorship. East to West, North to South, everywhere!

And so the Sponsorship Department made their way to Brother International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd for a visit to discuss about being part of the charitable effort with "A Cut Above Charity".

As Brother tagline states, Brother - at your side, we would like to say..

A very big thank you for coming on board with "A Cut Above Charity" as one of our co-sponsors!

"A Cut Above Charity" and Brother International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd will be marching down the charity aisle to make the event a success in the name of charity! =)

Psst... You can win some great prizes (printers) from Brother International (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd at "A Cut Above Charity".. Come join us and take part in "A Cut Above Charity" activities!

Behind the scenes #6 - Stylo-milo, A Cut Above Academy Here We Go!

Malaysians are stylo-milo, or very simply trendy and stylish.

We are never shy to give it a go when it comes to hair. Mohawk, dreadlocks, bald, red-blue-pink-purple-orange-I-dunno-what-other-colours coloured hair, and of course hair tattoo! But have you ever wonder, how many do it for charity? We believe it is quite close to a few.

A few indeed but we have a brave and kindhearted gentleman who does this for “A CUT ABOVE CHARITY”!  Not only that, we have two pretty ladies and one handsome gentleman who are willing to model with headgears to create publicity in the college.

Last Thursday, a team made a trip to A Cut Above Academy at Sunway Pyramid, Subang to get themselves some hair and headgear styling education from the professionals. And the "man-of-the-moment" and his moment of truth. =)

It was all good for the “man-of-the-moment” until the team reached the destination.

Time for some styling... From left: Chun Weng, Jason Low (far front) and Shin Jin ready for some hair and headgear styling education at A Cut Above Academy, Sunway Pyramid, Subang

Moment of truth... Teong Eu (THE man-of-the-moment) awaits his moment to have his head shave (just like the head in the picture)

See the linkage? Teong Eu “the man” is going to shave the “A Cut Above Charity” logo on the back of his head and it is all in the name of charity! How cool is that?!

In fact, his picture will be used in the “A Little Help, Fulfils A Dream” puzzle.

"A Little Help, Fulfils A Dream" Puzzle
Life is made up of momentous steps and pieces of experience in our life. Every missing piece represents an incomplete dream and life of the less fortunate. Therefore, YOU can lend a helping hand to complete the puzzle with just a minimum of RM1.00 a piece. This giant puzzle will be presented to the beneficiary home as a remembrance, not to forget that the fund raised through this puzzle will be given to them as well.

Shave 'em off... The shaving begins!

Meanwhile, the models prepare to learn what is needed to be done with their hair before putting on the headgear. Many may think it is easy but wait until you see the process. It is not easy at all!

Shin Jin and her headgear

And then comes the process...

Time to shake the headgear back and forth - just to test.

The masterpiece and its creator... Cassius Lawrence and his masterpiece for "A Cut Above Charity"

A few words from "THE man"

That marked the end of a good day at the salon and we thank A Cut Above a lot for the FREE cut and advise on how to put on the headgears. Many thanks! Especially to Mr. Cassius!

Do come to the campaign and get your hair cut for only RM10 (funds collected will be channeled to a beneficiary home), see the outcome of the puzzle (where all funds collected will also be channeled to the beneficiary home), our awesome models and most importantly, be part of this great charity effort for the less fortunate!

Time: 9.30am - 6pm

Behind the scenes #5 - with Publicity Department

Earlier this week,  four members from "A Cut Above Charity" Publicity Department made a trip to Pertubuhan Amal Seri Sinar (P.A.S.S.), Hulu Langat, Selangor to get recycle materials for publicity materials purposes.

Besides the aims to create awareness and raise funds for the less fortunate, we also take a step into making sure that the materials that we use for the event are recycled materials in order to keep the spirit of eco-friendliness.

Charity + eco-friendly = "A Cut Above Charity"

Behind the scenes #4 - with Group 2 (ambassador search) and Media Relations Department

Being two different courses who have their very own nature of studies, Advanced Diploma in Mass Communication (Public Relations) Year 2 and Advanced Diploma in Mass Communication (Media Studies) Year 2 join forces as one big team to organise "A Cut Above Charity".

2 courses - ONE BIG TEAM - 9 different mini groups
ONE "A CUT ABOVE CHARITY" EVENT

Each of the 9 mini groups are required to seek for ambassadors who are either famous locally or internationally. The idea behind seeking for ambassadors is that each group need one prominent individual to represent their groups in order to make "A Cut Above Charity" a momentous success among the public at large. Also, we seek to join forces with prominent individuals to create a much impactful message in regards to creating awareness and raising funds for the less fortunate/charity.

Not to forget, the importance of partnering with the media that is mutually beneficial to both parties (the event and media).

Therefore this blog post tells you the story of the Group 2 and their effort to seek for an ambassador (who is part of 988) for their group as well as the journey of Media Relations Department into partnering with 988 as the Chinese radio station for "A Cut Above Charity".

Ambassadors & media partner... From left: Jia Ern (Media Relations Department), Joyce Pee, Lin Yee (988 Advertising & Promotions Executive), Man Yong (988 Advertising & Promotions Executive) , Hui Qi, King Mang (Group 2 leader / Creative Department supervisor) and Chee Yin (Media Relations Department).

Well, there is only one picture to tell you the journey of both groups (Group 2 and Media Relations Department). XD

We are almost there! =)

Behind The Scenes #3 - with Activities Department

Meetings after meetings, after meetings.

"A Cut Above Charity" organisers sure try their very level best to keep themselves awake even after hours of sitting on the same chairs in meetings. It is no doubt part and parcel of organising an event.

Try imagining the number of meetings event companies have when they plan to organise an event that 'KABOOMS' the public.

The organisers sure are trying to 'KAPOOW' you and the public at large instead of just 'KABOOM-ING' you all. Well, you get the idea. =p

With that in mind, apart from being a charity event, the event's Activities Department was caught in still images while they were brainstorming for out-of-the-box ideas to allow you and other visitors to not only visit the event to get your hair cut but also to have fun with activities specially created for "A Cut Above Charity".

Swimming in pools of thoughts... Miss Lim (Event Supervisor) discusses the current activities with the Activities Department.

Deep thoughts... From left: Miss Lim (Event Supervisor), Chan Chun Wai (Activities Deparment supervisor), Jason Choong, and Kenny Teh (near bottom in orange) are in deep thoughts during the brainstorming session.

Want to know what activities are installed for you?
Want to know what prizes you can win from "A Cut Above Charity" activities?

As we will make sure the suspense you have are sorted out (very very slowly). =p

Behind the scenes #2 - OTM

As college students aiming to successfully organise an event that involves not only internal public (e.g.: students, lecturers and college staff) but also external public such as the public at large, we do go through event issues (oh yeah, it sure is some serious business).

Our knowledge and skills learned were put to the test.
(practicality sure is important) =)

It was about transparency, working closely and together despite where you are seated in the organisational chart, and the like.

We believe it is a situation that organisations will encounter and it is not impossible to work the situation out together. Therefore some team members initiated the first step in making the situation visible and clear so that actions could be taken. And it was an initiative that we are thankful for.

Alright, let's put aside the serious tone, shall we?
(Like Joker in the Dark Knight would say, "Why so serious?") =)

Event updates... Christine Tan begins the briefing with an introduction to the "A Cut Above Charity".

Hands raised high... All members from APR2 and AMS2 decides, well, 'democratically' during a voting session regarding the event's updates.

Stay tuned as we will be counting down to "A Cut Above Charity" pre-event and event! (drum roll please!) *excited*

PS: don't stop the drum roll until the countdown begins. =P

Behind the scenes #1 - with A Cut Above Academy

The toughest part about any event is definitely building and getting partnerships with renowned organisations. It will certainly shake the knees of organisers.

As you may have already known, A Cut Above Charity’s partner is A Cut Above itself. Marking its 30 years since its establishment in 1979, A Cut Above is founded by Ms. Winnie Loo who opened the first salon that is only a 428 sq ft with 10 seats salon in the heart of Kuala Lumpur golden triangle. This Malaysia’s renowned hair salon has been expanding ever since with an outlet each in Bangsar Shopping Centre (5000 sq. ft.), Bangsar Village , Mid Valley Megamall (4000 sq. ft.), Sunway Pyramid where a studio salon and academy is situated (3000 sq. ft.), and lastly the newest outlet in Parkson in Pavilion with a new concept, Kerastase (Loreal) spa salon.

If the measurements confused you, just remember this; from one 428 sq. ft. salon to 5000 sq. ft. salons – not only one outlet but five outlets!

Now imagine meeting representatives from such an established hair salon. Honestly, it certainly shook the knees of the presenters. But of course, all the anxious-knee-shaking moments, were well worth it.

Final discussion... Ms Lim (Event Supervisor) in pink, leaders and department leaders who were present had a short discussion before meeting the representatives from A Cut Above, Ms Yin Kuan (A Cut Above Academy Manager) and Mr Kelvin Chin (Educator).

Further explanations... From left, Ms Yin Kuan (A Cut Above Academy Manager), Mr Kelvin Chin (Educator) and Ms Lim (Event Supervisor) further explains the the event and its areas in the college hall during a tour around TAR College main hall.

Media channels... From left, Ms Yin Kuan (A Cut Above Academy Manager), Mr Kelvin Chin (Educator) and Lam Wai Kuan (Media Relations Department leader) explains the targeted media for "A Cut Above Charity".

Publicity ideas... From left, Ms Yin Kuan (A Cut Above Academy Manager), Mr Kelvin Chin (Educator) and Hua Chean (Publicity Department supervisor) explains the ideas and materials to publicise the event in style.

It was indeed a joyful moment as the meeting went well, but it was also the moment of truth for the event organisers as it was a moment that meant, “Ladies and Gentleman, please shift to gear 10!”
